Ahead of the All Progressive Congress APC congress in the state, former Governorship aspirant of APC, Tonye Cole has reacted, saying all card carrying and bonafide members of APC who are eligible for office are free to contest for any position they deem fit.
Reacting he said, Dear party faithfuls, it has been brought to my attention that a vicious rumor is circulating that a decision has been made to return all party Excos in the wards and LGA. Furthermore I am being told that aspiring candidates are being told not to bother contesting as the positions are not vacant.
This rumor is patently false and to any true democrat, it is designed to destroy the party even before the Congress has held. Only enemies of the party who are afraid of a united APC will start such a rumor.
For the avoidance of doubt, all card carrying and bonafide members of APC who are eligible for office are free to contest for any position they deem fit. No Exco position at any level has been reserved, preserved or conserved for any candidate.
I therefore urge every aspiring candidate who is certain of their ability to garner the support of the grassroot at their wards and win by majority votes to not be deterred by anyone spreading rumors saying they should not bother running. They should not only run, they should win the elections and be the true voice of their people who are yearning for change.
In the spirit of democracy and for the sake of a better Nigeria and stronger APC, please show your determination not to allow your mandate to be stolen and come out to contest and vote.
