For the umpteenth time, the suspension of the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Head of Directorate in the South East Zone of Nigeria on Monday failed in Imo State.

After the first observation of the sit-at-home order, IPOB declared in honour of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who was arrested and still in detention, NEWSMEN findings shows that residents of Imo State have continued to obey the instruction despite IPOB recanting its order and asking people to go about their normal businesses.

The current order which is currently having socioeconomic and health impacts on Igboland has also prompted authorities of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Owerri to readjust services to pregnant patients attending Monday clinic.

According to a statement posted at the anti-natal section of the health facility which NEWSMEN saw, “this is to inform all concerned that Monday ANC has been shifted to Fridays with effect from next week.”

It added that the change was as a result of Monday uncertainties that has befallen South East sit-at-home saga.

“The establishment used this opportunity to ask people to comply with the development to enable them to serve them better,”/FMC management averred.

IPOB had declared Monday, August 8, 2021, as sit-at-home day for the sake of Nnamdi Kanu’s continued detention by the federal government but had to call it off for the rest of Monday’s, insisting that the sit-at-home will now be only for the day he will be arraigned in court.

But the residents of Owerri and other parts of Imo State failed to take the new IPOB directive accordingly, as activities were again paralyzed on Monday.

Our correspondent observed that as usual, banks, markets, and other shops were not opened for businesses while transportation was at the lowest ebb of traffic.

Though workers were noticed at government offices and secretariats, they were few and comprised mainly those who have mobility to go about their engagements.

At the bus stops in the state capital, passengers were scanty while the few vehicles available moved on their own.

NEWSMEN noticed that in Owerri metropolis, security operates patrolled the streets. As at the time of this report, no incident was recorded within Owerri as the entire area was cool and calm.
