Sahara Reporters publisher and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore has said he has not had any physical contact with his wife Mrs Ope Sowore for more than two years and has placed the blame on President Muhammadu Buhari.

Sowore and Ope.

“Today is our 17th wedding anniversary,” Sowore tweeted on Saturday 11 September 2021, “my son, sticking out his tongue here [pictured below] turned 12 as well, haven’t seen them in person since July 2019 because of a despicable despot @MBuhari & his coterie of enablers who seized this country. They’ll be disgraced out of office #RevolutionNow.”

Sowore’s wife and son.

The human rights activist, who recently lost his brother, was arrested in 2019 alongside fellow activist Olawale Bakare, better known as Mandate, after they led a RevolutionNow protest, calling for better governance.

But the federal government accused them of planning to overthrow the government.

According to his bail conditions, Mr Sowore was prohibited from leaving Abuja, while Mr Bakare was restricted to Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

Sowore’s message on Saturday night elicited comments from his followers.

“An Igbo adage says, ‘when the hand of the strong withholds a child’s property and raises it up to avoid the child’s hands from reaching it, when the hand becomes painful, he will release the child’s property in shame.’ So, my dear, you are already winning, God’s grace,” one Twitter user said.

“Bro you have sacrificed a whole lot for the advancement of good governance in Nig. May God bless you and make your vision a reality in your lifetime. You are a hero!” another added.

“From the deepest depths of my heart, I thank you for all your sacrifices. Congratulations on your anniversary,” a third user said.
