A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and former governorship candidate in Abia State, Chief Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh, has lamented the activities of some suspended members of the party in truncating the overwhelming gains achieved by the party in the state.

This is even as the party chieftain lauded the national Caretaker Committee of the APC for the ongoing repositioning and peace process in the state and many parts of the country and as well as, the recent directive to the Imo State Governor and leader of the APC in Southeast, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma to end whatever wranglings thwarting the electoral fortunes of the party in Abia.

Speaking during an exclusive interview with NEWSMEN on Monday, against the backdrops of the ongoing peace process in the state chapter of the All Progressive Congress, Chief Ikoh, also a former Commissioner of Industry in Abia State, regretted that these characters unrelentingly feed fat in sowing seeds of discord and disunity and also expressing dismay at the inability of the national leadership of the party to take urgent disciplinary action and curb the clogs in the wheel of progress and unity of the APC and her members in Abia State.

He also regretted the apparent complicity and connivance of some national officers in the crisis playing out in the Abia State chapter of the party and further tasked the leadership of the governing APC on quick resolution of the internal squabbles to save the party in Abia State from jeopardy and imminent extinction.

Ikoh equally frowned at the running of a parallel structure of the party in the state by some suspended chieftains restating that the latter’s anti-party postures have done more harm than good, which he alleged, was negatively affecting the chances of the party to form government in the state and reiterating that no one man can own a party and win elections.

He insisted that the constitution of the APC recognizes only one State Executive Committee- led by Hon Donatus Nwankpa and also reiterated that, the people of Abia in the party will never allow any leadership to be imported into the State through an unknown means and procedure.

Chief Ikoh noted that whatever forms of crisis bedeviling the party in the State can also be capably handled by the stakeholders in the State and however, urged warring leaders and teeming members of the party to abstain from the negative tendency that is capable of jeopardizing tremendous and laudable gains and as well, the chances of the APC in securing a win in future elections.

His words, “the evil dance is being beaten by the current leadership of APC at the National Secretariat bent on destroying the democratic APC structure in Abia State. The same National Secretariat had also directed The Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma to go and harmonize the party structure in Abia State of which, His Excellency has started a good job by directing that all stakeholders should go to their different local government and harmonize their structure and that no leader should go to dictate list in other local governments. Why will the same APC Secretariat start creating confusion through a parallel structure except, there is something they are not explaining to the teaming Abia State APC members.

“The true position of things as it presently stands is that parallel executive have no place under the constitution of APC, both at the National and State level. It is believed that some of the National Officers may have been deceived concerning political weight some leaders have but may not have known their antecedents and are not conversant with the full facts playing out in Abia.

“But let it be on record that the leadership of the party in the State cannot be imported from Abuja. The present leadership, which is a product of a democratic process, must, if any, be removed democratically in accordance with the constitution of the Party. For now, they are recognized by the constitution, the people and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)”.
